CORES/FRN

CORES/FRN Information

An FCC Registration Number (FRN) is required before examination.

If you wish to conduct business with the FCC, you must first register through the FCC's Commission Registration System (CORES). After registering you will be assigned a FCC Registration Number (FRN), which will uniquely identify you in all transactions with the FCC. Other than the initial registration process to receive your FRN, you will not have to disclose your Social Security Account Number (SSAN) again.

To register in CORES and receive your FRN, go to this website for step-by-step instructions for registering a new Username Account in the CORES system. Be sure to record your password, the Personal Security Question and the answer:

Bring your FRN number with you to the test session. When you fill out the ARRL - FCC Form 605, put your FRN number in the block where it asks for it.

Please note: The FCC now charges $35 to get your license and will directly send you a link to pay, after they have been paid they will send a link with your license in PDF form. You should rename this file and put it on your computer or cloud storage where you can find it. Also print a copy to keep with your radio.

If you have any questions about the application process, you can contact the FCC at 877.480.3210 from 0800-1800 EST.
