CORES/FRN

CORES/FRN Information

If you wish to conduct business with the FCC, you must first register through the FCC's Commission Registration System (CORES). After registering, you will be assigned a FCC Registration Number (FRN), which will uniquely identify you in all transactions with the FCC. Other than the initial registration process to receive your FRN, you will not have to disclose your Social Security Account Number (SSAN) again. If you do not have a FRN, we highly recommend you apply for your FRN before you take your initial license examination.

To register in CORES and receive your FRN, go to this web site:

https://apps.fcc.gov/coresWeb/publicHome.do

  1. Select the "Register" tab.
  2. In the first section of the Registration Type, select "An Individual" [and Continue].
  3. On the FRN Registration Form, complete all of the blocks identified by a red asterisk (*).
  4. Record your password and Personal Security Question and Answer, and keep them in a safe place. You will need this information in order to access your account with the FCC in the future to complete a change of address, renew your license, or any other dealings with the FCC.
  5. After you have provided all the required information, scroll to the bottom of the form and press the "Submit" button.
  6. In a few days, you will receive an email from the FCC with your FRN (FCC Registration Number). Record your FRN and then file it with your password and Personal Security Question and Answer.
  7. Bring your FRN with you to the test session. When you fill out the NCVEC Form 605, put your FRN in the block where it asks for it.
    {You do not have to enter your Social Security Number at the test session -only your FRN.}
